like any artist the choice cuts like the subject matter is an open cavalcade for
the painter like a freedom....and weirdly also like a prison but what to choose ?
There once was a really resourceful painter who always checks the backgound
of a competition. That is the previous winners.Especially in the different categories.
The artful artist researcher will examine the winners closely for characteristics.
Like the stytle, the content and the type of materials used.one of the biggest clues is the comments that the judges leave about individual entries.
This may sound all a little cold blooded and remote from the happy serendipity
of the chance celebration of a painter on a stumble into prize heaven. Me no .....
just the smell of the paint will do me.
some will be fairly steamed up about the money.Yes tripping over and
stumbling with their words like tongue tied and blustered; that's like a type
of wallet envy. So crazy .......just a flimsy piece of canvas between the entrant
and the potential cash.Yes that's right but did I leave anything or anyone out ?
Just two ginormous aspects. Two pillars around which the navigation to the cash
must be proceed. Two thorny combatants that block the path to the currency.
Always best to know the weakness of the foes....well that is just a dramatic name
for the two aforementioned .Those two are.....first in the white corner yes the artist
talented daubler who has had many previous encounters with the canvas.....
and in the red corner yes the judges...also of some experience with some
strengths and weakness........is that an even match...ohhhhhhhhh
in retrospect there are some doubts.Yes not a perfect world. Not exactly
an earth shattering discovery but still good enough to keep the feet on the ground.
Like any good researcher should do I did look at a gallery of previous winners
of the comps from the Redlands gallery. Some might say that is a totally non
creative way to approach an art entry to a gallery.Hey it is a competition so
any method to narrow the odds on those juicy cash prizes is fair game. The mark
perhaps of a good researcher though is to know what to look for.Back to the juice.
Yes three cash prizes, each in the thousands.Yes this is a case for the max odds
reduction.

Cleaned up the studio and vacuumed the floor. The large lumps of paint
have enough body to make the possibility of a new 'found-art' peice,
The total of the inputs and the the configuration of the studio are enough to
exasperate even the most studious of studio pretend painters.Oh that's
right it's not pretend .....it's faux (the untrained) but my old
girlfriend said well she's not old but we split up awhile ago anyway she said
I drew freely because there was not the constraint of a formal art
education. So the point is now lost so to speak because this is a formal art
course of sorts.Maybe the drawing ability was going downhill already....
.....might start drawing from a new angle with my foot.Desperate
times require desperate methods.

After the photograph was taken of the work an sent with the entry stuff
there is an itch to do more work on the work (painting). That's funny how
if I did and in the weird hypothetical situation if the drew wanted the
work for final selection it had changed. "Hey this isn't the work in the
photograph, this is something else."
Luckily there was a spare room to lock the original in so it won't be
attacked with more paint. There are alarms on the door so if any painter
approached the work the alrm would go off. Also there is a big bag of mothballs
and three bottles of preserving fluid and wax to lock the work in time.
Can I go home now doctor. The medication is definitely working.

have been fairly flat out as Sept 22 deadline approached.Have to send jpeg
of work to redlands for assessment.Had setup the setup in a friends place.
...easel canvas stuff paints etc...fair bit of time practised throwing canvas at paint
...jumping up and down on paint with canvas as no photography allowed .
Couple of times brushed the ceiling so nailed canvas to ceiling for
greater effect.I hope the judges like it.
